Why & What are Teen Training Classes
Our teen classes are six sessions at the weekends. The classes are 4-6 dogs plus their handlers. At the end of six weeks students will have the option to take one or both of these tests:
- Canine Good Citizen
- Competitive Obedience (Pre Novice)
Training your older dog for these kind of tests is a very good way to deal with unwanted behaviour that the dog had already learned. This includes:
- Understanding Aggressive Behaviour vs Aggressive Dogs
- Focus & Attention & Redirection
- Resource Guarding
- Excessive Barking
- Walking on a Loose Leash
- Understanding DO vs DON'T
If by the end of your first class you decide this training doesn't meet your needs just let us know and we will refund your fees in full. https://www.puppytraining.my/#faq
How to create a Canine Good Citizen?
As proof that your teen dog has improved we base our Teen Classes on the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen training. After the six classes, you can - if you wish - take the CGC Test. (FREE - fee included in your Teen Training course fee)
Note: If you decide to take the Competitive Obedience Test, that will be administered by an outside group affiliated with the Malaysian Kennel Club during one of their scheduled trials - fee for that test is usually about RM50.
The American Kennel Club created the Canine Good CitizenĀ® (CGC) training program as a stepping-stone to other exams, such as those given for therapy dogs, and is a good starting point for more advanced dog training. Details are here.
Note: a CGC Test Cert is required by DBKL for several breeds - see below.

Optional Test
Cost of Canine Good Citizen test is included in the series lesson fees. If you fail you're welcome to redo at a later date (no additional charge).
Missed Classes
Students often have to be "outstation". You're welcome to make up any missed clases (free) during the next series.
No Class Option
If you feel your dog can pass the CGC Test without any further training, then you can take the test with our other students without attending classes. Test Fee RM150 (pass or fail)
Suggestion: watch this video If your dog can do this, you can probably pass the CGC test without additional training.
Trainer - Richard Gardner
Richard first started teaching group classes for puppies here in Malaysia about 18 years ago. In 2011 he set up www.PuppyTraining.my at Jaya One PJ, and in 2021 moved his classes to SPCA Selangor in Ampang. He also now teaches at SOCIETY Mont Kiara.
"I've always felt that the primary focus of most dog owners was simply to learn how to enjoy their pet as a pet, a friend and a companion. Our aim is to create "Bistro Dogs" - dogs that are welcome everywhere!"
Richard is a member of the Malaysian Kennel Association (MKA) and an authorized evaluator for the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Trick Dog programs.
